i've been stocking up on sweaters lately and my favorite way to wear them is paired with white bottoms. i love the contrast between a cozy knit in fall colors paired against bright white. i wore this combo sunday for a trip to the last farmer's market of the season.

can you believe how quickly october went by?! i'm not quite ready for the cold weather on its way but staying cozied up at home does provide lots of time for baking, home improvement and diy projects. here's a bit of what i'm hoping to do while holed up hiding from the cold. what do you have planned for the long winter?

halloween blondies

martha stewart always has the greatest holiday cookies recipes and this one is no exception. they were pretty easy to make too which is a must for a weekday baking session. find the recipe here.

i think the season for shorts has officially ended in chicago, so i'm glad i got one last wear out of these cord shorts (first seen here) over the weekend before they're packed away 'til spring. worn with a new plaid shirt and comfy booties for weekend errand running.

just finished up what was definitely the most gorgeous weekend yet. when we weren't out in the fall sun, a perfect fall breeze was blowing through our apartment's windows. snapped these photos while waiting for an al fresco brunch at lula cafe.

the last few weeks i've been fully embracing all things fall. and this weekend i plan on continuing just that. surprisingly we have no weekend plans which is particularly nice after a super busy week that included a trip to new york that literally lasted a new york minute. i didn't even get to see my favorite new yorker. which means a return visit is in order very soon.

mixing prints {a how to of sorts}

i have to admit that mixing prints is a trend that scares me a bit. done right it can look so good. but done wrong it can look so very, very bad. i really do love the look though and am always up for trying out new trends, so i did a little bit of digging to see how the experts pull it off to get me started.

 mixing the same pattern seems to be the easiest way to conquer mixing prints. with all the great plaid pieces this season what better place to start?

marc jacobs runway revolved around pairing polka dots with more polka dots. i plan on dipping my toe (literally) into mixing prints with these spotted tights.

two different prints pair best when one is toned down by more muted/neutral colors.
